An Immersion in Contact Improvisation

contactimprov1

Do you feel as though you have lost touch with your inner ‘self’? Do you feel as though there is more inside you waiting to be uncovered and set free? Do you remember how it feels to appreciate your body in all its natural wonder and ability? Immersing oneself in the art of Contact Improvisation can take you on that journey…

WHAT IT CONTACT IMPROVISATION?

It is an intuitive, non-verbal and intimate dialogue where any two people in a dance partnership aspire to absolute 2 way communication, listening to and sharing without words to what is already there.

FUN, ACROBATIC, MEDITATIVE, IN THE MOMENT, CONNECTION

A beautiful contrast of fluid movement, at times it is deeply meditative, at others acrobatic, fast-moving and dynamic.

Contact Improvisation encompasses skills such as rolling, falling, leaning, listening, balancing and flying. During Contact Improvisation, we are always guided by awareness, self-responsibility, and the impulses of the present moment. It is intimate and sensual without any sexual connotations. Contact Improvisation satisfies deep human needs for connection whilst also being fun!

I’M A BEGINNER…

Absolutely no experience is necessary and all skill levels are welcome (we all share from each others experience). Come and move your body, dance in the skin you’re in and learn to love it! You’ll feel invigorated, liberated and connected, both with yourself and others and by the end of the day, you’ll be pleasantly exhausted!

YOUR TEACHERS

Catriona: Yoga, theatre and movement background

Benn: Muso and teacher of energetic movement based practices

Fresh back from the 2017 Australian Contact Improvisation Convergence, Catriona and Benn are ready to pass on their knowledge and skills to a willing audience. Both teach regular classes and workshops in the Bellingen Shire where students are guided into deepening states of somatic awareness, from which point they learn specific skills and principles needed to dance the Contact Improvisation form. And both have been dancing Contact Improvisation for over a decade. Come and benefit from their enthusiasm and experience.
