During menstruation, you may be used to experiencing feelings of heaviness, tiredness, bloating, stress and heightened emotions. It’s so important for us to save our energy at this time, by setting aside more rigorous activities and practices such as inversions and sun salutations.
Instead, we can really support ourselves by practicing gentle asana, such as forward folds and hip openers, which will soothe and relaxed stressed muscles, help to balance emotions and slow down our busy minds.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to best support yourself with correct practices for this time of the month. You’ll learn how to bring a boost to your energy and mood and alleviate the common symptoms such as bloating, tension, lower back pain, headaches and cramping through yoga.
You’ll enjoy a deeply restorative practice, with lots of props to help you relax into each asana and find a deeper sense of opening in body and mind.
You’ll also receive a special sequence to take away and practice at home, so that you can begin to really experience the benefits of practicing in this way each month. You may notice that many of your common symptoms begin to lessen, and even disappear, once you take the time to support yourself properly during your menstruation.
In the Iyengar yoga tradition, there is a whole sequence of asanas designed for women to practice during their menstruation. We’ll explore some of the postures and breath practices that are recommended during this time – largely supine or seated asanas such as forward folds and asanas which help to open and soothe the hips and front body.
